Our Minimal Impact code of Practice
We ask our guest when staying at Riverside Paradise to be considerate of any impact on the environment their activities may have on the environment. At Riverside Paradise we are conscious that some of our guest would like some guidance to help to assist them with our code of practice. Here are a number of practices that can help you.
-
At all times please use the Leave no Trace policy when visiting all areas of activity.
-
We would like to remind you that during your vacation you may come in contact with farm animals, always stay a safe distance as these animals are beautiful but can be dangerous.
-
View all wild life from a distance.
-
Do not enter private lands without receiving permission to do so from the land owner.
-
Always keep to walkways and pathways where possible.
-
Do not dispose of food, liquids or detergent into our lakes, rivers or streams as this may kill our fish stock and wild life.
-
Please do not leave food behind you or feed the birds with food, other than food recommended for wild life.
-
Please be aware that many of the areas you visit, especially during the summer months are vulnerable to accidental fires that kill wild life, destroy our forest and bog lands. You can help by not lighting fires and if you are a smoker make sure all lighting cigarettes are extinguished when finished with.
-
Where possible leave the car behind and travel in groups by using local transport providers. During you stay at Riverside Paradise we can arrange the following low impact activities, for you and you group.
-
Local cycle hire for you and your group.
-
A day on a hired cruiser, out on the River Shannon.
-
Spend time on our own 20 ft river boat c/w outboard engine.
-
Walking day tours on our boglands, forest pathways and mountain walks.
Remember to always wear the appropriate clothing and footwear for each activity. All of these activities would help to preserve fuel and help our environment during you stay.
Sometimes local culture can be different to where we as visitors come from, please take time and make contact with the local community. Why not attend some of their sports activity, sports like football, hurling and swimming at Birr Sports centre.
Attend some of the local farmer markets, held in the local town. (Times and dates available on request) Why not go to Birr Town and see the farmers buy and sell farm animals in their traditional way, at the Mart?
Thank you for helping Riverside Paradise to implement our code of Practice.
